Teen Modern Glam Room Reveal

Ahhhhh the day has finally arrived!  This room has been in the making for quite a while, I can’t believe I posted the design plan all the way back in October.  Honestly, it didn’t take that long to complete this room.  It’s just took a while to get the ball rolling.  I guess that’s just life, right?

Let’s take another look at some before pictures of the space:

Dah dah dum….. How do you like it now?

Liberty is my youngest sister and will soon turn fourteen.  She is growing up and maturing so fast and I knew we needed to design a room to fit her blooming personality.  No more little kid stuff… but still fun and pretty and lighthearted.  I wanted the room to be refined, glamorous, and pretty while still be simple and functional.  Liberty is a dancer and so I knew a ballet bar just HAD to happen in this room.  Her bedroom is pretty large with a wood floor, the perfect space for a dance area.  I added a large mirror to the wall opposite her bed and incorporated the ballet bar on the same wall.

Overall, I am so happy with how this space turned out.  I stuck to the color pallet of deep royal blue, blush pink, gray, white, with gold and brushed nickel accents/hardware.  The walls are painted “Agreeable Gray” by Sherwin Williams– made 50% lighter.  So really it’s a custom color.  I love it!

The tufted headboard is my baby!  I’m so in love with how it turned out.  I will soon be posting a DIY video (my first one) with some instruction on how to tuft your own upholstered headboard!  I’m pretty proud of how it turned out, it honestly looks more professional than I thought it would.

For the nightstands I turned once again to the IKEA Rast because of the great price.  I also love how they come unfinished… a blank canvas just waiting to be made into something spectacular.  I was inspired by campaign dressers I saw in lux and glam styled spaces and knew this was the route I wanted to go for the nightstands.  Much different than the IKEA rast makeover for Shelby’s Teen Modern Desert Reveal.  That is the great thing about the Rast… you can make it your own!

This cute little armchair is from Homegoods and so perfect for the space!

The picture ledges are from IKEA.  I’ve seen picture ledges at other places and none are ever priced as good as the ones from IKEA.  I purchased these same ledges to use as book ledges in Nash’s nursery.  I styled the ledges with simple art and kept everything pretty neutral.  I love the picture of Liberty doing her straddles on railroad tracks and decided to incorporate it into the design of the room to go along with the dance bar.

I found this modern art print on Etsy by DanHobday Art.  I then glued stripes of wood to the top and bottom of the print and hung it with some simple string, similar to the art print I hung in my entry way.  I needed something blue to tie the entire space into the headboard and when I saw this art print, I knew it was perfect!  I think it looks like abstract rose petals.  But hey, it’s up for interpretation right?

This is the original desk painted white, doesn’t it look amazing?  The small knobs are original, just spray painted gold.  The lower knobs were updated to an elegant crystal knob.  Okay, isn’t that little stool to die for???  I love the fur and the hairpin legs are absolute perfection.  It’s from Hobby Lobby.  We made the curtains with some fabric from Wal Mart, which is where we happened to find the perfect color after searching everywhere for it.  Often times, making your own curtain panels is much less expensive than buying curtain panels.  I also love being able to customize the size.

I moved the pillows to show a better view of the entire tufted headboard.  This was quite the project, but I love how it turned out.

Let’s enjoy a bunch of photos now… enough talking!

What do you think of the space??  SO different.  The light gray paint really lightened up the space and I love how much the rug adds.  When you don’t have the option to change the flooring, large rugs can really do wonders for a space.

The best part of all of this is how much Liberty loves her bedroom.  I think any 13 year old girl would be absolutely smitten with this space.  I love seeing how excited she is!

Let me know if you have any questions.  And keep checking the blog… I will soon post about how to make your own tufted headboard.  Because you know you want one.. am I right??
